Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

Sunday Scaries are real. Don't let anyone tell you differently. If you haven't heard of them, it's that Sunday night rush of excitement, anxiety, jitters, and sadness that the weekend is over and Monday is coming. When you live with a teacher like I do, and the calendar turns from July to August, it hits differently. The School-Starts-Soon Scaries are real too. And they have hit.

Selfishly, I'm kind of excited to get back into the fall schedule. School, sports, changing seasons, and the regular routines of the school year. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with the rhythms of the week: school, work, sports, service, and worship.

As we move into this fall season, I hope you will join with others at The Downtown Church as we study scripture in new discussion groups, serve the people in our community through our ministry partners, and support each other in the ways we volunteer on Sundays here at church. And if you haven't found a place to connect, I hope you will take some time and find the spot that's right for you. Because, in my experience, the best way to counteract the Sunday Scaries, and all that comes with it, is to have strong relationships. Connections with people that you look forward to experiencing each week. Ways you serve and volunteer that feed your soul. I hope The Downtown Church is a place that refreshes and recharges you to face every new week, and every new season. And in the meantime, let's be a little extra kind to all the school kids, teachers, and support staff we know.

See you soon,
Brian

We are back tomorrow night for the First Friday in August! Join us for a fantastic evening of music, snacks, and kids activities. Melinda Mullins will be playing songs written by her dad, Ozarks legend, Johnny Mullins! We will have fresh popcorn, lemonade, popsicles and some fun kids activities. Bring your friends and family for this FREE night at the church in beautiful, Downtown Springfield! We could use a few more volunteers, so if you can help, email us back!
Our annual back-to-school Family Bowling Day is THIS SUNDAY, August 4th, from 2-4pm. The cost is $10 per person and includes shoes, bowling, and a $10 arcade card. All our children, youth, and their families are invited! You can RSVP at this form right here and pay at the event. This is always such a fun time to hang out and play with our church family and some of us even get to claim bragging rights for the year! Can't wait to see you all!

Anyone who is interested in Methodism, membership here at The Downtown Church, or our vision can get your questions answered by RSVPing for our Next Steps Class on Sunday, August 18, from 11:30am-1:30pm. Lunch and childcare are provided, we just need to know how many to plan for. Any questions? Just send us an email back and we are happy to answer any.
