Sunday Scaries are real. Don't let anyone tell you differently. If you haven't heard of them, it's that Sunday night rush of excitement, anxiety, jitters, and sadness that the weekend is over and Monday is coming. When you live with a teacher like I do, and the calendar turns from July to August, it hits differently. The School-Starts-Soon Scaries are real too. And they have hit.
Selfishly, I'm kind of excited to get back into the fall schedule. School, sports, changing seasons, and the regular routines of the school year. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with the rhythms of the week: school, work, sports, service, and worship.
As we move into this fall season, I hope you will join with others at The Downtown Church as we study scripture in new discussion groups, serve the people in our community through our ministry partners, and support each other in the ways we volunteer on Sundays here at church. And if you haven't found a place to connect, I hope you will take some time and find the spot that's right for you. Because, in my experience, the best way to counteract the Sunday Scaries, and all that comes with it, is to have strong relationships. Connections with people that you look forward to experiencing each week. Ways you serve and volunteer that feed your soul. I hope The Downtown Church is a place that refreshes and recharges you to face every new week, and every new season. And in the meantime, let's be a little extra kind to all the school kids, teachers, and support staff we know.
See you soon, Brian
