Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

We're doing something we've never done before at The Downtown Church. It's something that aligns with our vision, our goals, and our culture. It's something that helps us intersect with our community and neighbors. And it's something that I hope will inspire you to be even more involved in the world around you as we live out our faith everyday.

We are hosting a movie! More specifically, a documentary, at the Moxie Cinema. It's a film called Join or Die and it's all about the rise and fall of social connections in America, and what we can do about it going forward. Social Capital, that is the social connections and structure that binds neighbors and communities, is important to a functioning democracy, and I believe a strong and healthy Church.

When we engage with our neighbors and friends, regardless of politics or religion or whatever cultural hot-button issue is abuzz, we create trust. And when we can trust people we are able to overlook personal differences. We are able to step back and see that the face in front of us is really just another person, loved by God, and trying to live on the same planet as each one of us.

I'll hope you'll find time in your schedule to reserve your FREE ticket to one of three screenings on August 25/26. A healthy America might just depend on all of us joining together, and that goes doubly for the Church.

See you Sunday,
Brian

As part of our upcoming sermon series, we will be hosting three screenings of the documentary, Join or Die, at the Moxie. It’s all about the importance of connections and the idea of social capital. You can reserve your FREE ticket to one of three showings on our website
During the 6-weeks of our sermon series, No One Is An Island, we will host several discussion groups to dive deeper into the messages and foster conversation about what social connections look like from a faith perspective. There are six different groups: Sunday evenings at 5:30pm, Wednesday mornings at 10am, Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm, and three Sunday morning groups at 9:15am. Find the right time for your schedule and join us for some good discussion!
Our last warm weather First Friday Art Walk Party will take place on September 6th, from 6-8pm! Join us for some fun kids activities, delicious refreshments, and live jazz from Caduceus! And rumor has it that the band's biggest fan, a now-retired former pastor at The Downtown Church, might be in attendance. Hope to see you all for this fun, FREE night of entertainment.
