Yesterday, I went to my youngest grandchildren’s preschool Christmas program. There are few things that put a smile on my face as quickly as seeing Hannah, Kate, and Calvin come strolling into view. All the adults hold their breath as their child attempts to climb the risers. We all sigh as Away in a Manger rings out, especially when they gently place their cheeks on their folded hands and sing, “asleep on the hay.”
I know how blessed Ben and I are to be able to be as involved in our grandchildren's lives as we are. Some of you are limited by distance and circumstances as to the amount of time you are able to spend together. I understand that. We raised our children here in Missouri while our parents lived in Georgia and Florida, so I would imagine that is why so often I refer to The Downtown Church as a church family. I believe coming together under the Lordship of Jesus Christ as children of God gives us the opportunity to be family for one another. Imperfect and at times a bit strange, but family nonetheless.
I pray that you will choose to join The Downtown Church family for worship on Christmas Eve at 7pm, online and in person. I can guarantee it won’t be perfect. Our church family is made up of real people. But I know the experience will be made holy and sacred by the power of the Holy Spirit moving in and through this extraordinary family as we praise God and give thanks for the miraculous gift of Jesus Christ.
See you Sunday and on Christmas Eve, Lori
