I love the theater. From the time we arrived in Springfield in 1984, Ben and I have enjoyed many, many productions at the Springfield Little Theatre. And I have always harbored a desire to be a part of a musical. Dulcinea in The Man of La Mancha, Golda in Fiddler on the Roof, maybe even Baroness Schraeder in The Sound of Music are on my list of possibilities, although age and memory are not on my side.
So when the boiler at The Downtown Church went out one freezing February several years ago, our friends at SLT let us move worship to their stage. I was thrilled! Their kindness and generosity began a tradition that was interrupted by COVID, but resumes this Sunday. SLT is allowing us on the stage of their wonderful production of In the Heights, and several of their cast members will be joining us.
This is a great opportunity for you to invite your friends and family to experience The Downtown Church. Our series on REconstruction is all about building back faith in God through Jesus Christ that for a host of reasons have caused people to walk away. Who do you know who might not be ready for worship in a church, but would enjoy a service where we are truly living our vision to be a place where Christ and the community intersect? Is there someone in your life who needs to meet Christ followers who really are loving God and loving neighbor, all our neighbors? Invite them to join us in the barrio of Washington Heights, New York where this abuela (grandmother) will try not to burst into song!
See you Sunday, Lori
