I've been the lead pastor at The Downtown Church for exactly six months! It's been quite the adventure so far. I've learned a lot, listened a lot, and trusted a lot. The biggest thing I've come to realize, though, is how lucky I am to lead such a kind, caring, and loving congregation. You all make the job easy and I couldn't be happier with how the last six months went, or more excited for the year to come.
Looking back, 2024 was a great year for The Downtown Church. The transition from Lori to me was as smooth as I could've hoped for. The new staff have helped carry on our vision and culture. We hosted three screenings of a documentary at The Moxie as part of a sermon series. We had another season of Dinners Together. We explored hope, grief, and thankfulness together before journeying through Advent to Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we celebrated the birth of Jesus and our collective offerings amounted to nearly $10,000.
And we are busy making great plans for 2025. This Sunday, we start our new series, From the Foundry, about Methodism's roots, theology, and unique characteristics, which will culminate on March 2nd with worship at Springfield Little Theatre. There will also be another season of Dinners Together this spring and some new and interesting sermon series to give us things to think about.
I hope you, too, are excited about journeying together as we explore what it means to love God and love neighbor in 2025 and beyond!
Happy New Year, Brian
P.S. - Our compost bin has gone away as Springfield Compost Collective has ceased food collection. We encourage anyone who is interested in continued composting to visit the City of Springfield's food waste collection program. Even more food items are allowed in this program.
