Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

Our current sermon series has been so fun to design, research, and experience on Sundays as we explore our Methodist roots. And in all of my planning and research, I find myself so appreciative of John Wesley's words and understandings of our faith. I resonate more and more with our Wesleyan heritage and I share a lot of the sentiments I read in his sermons and journals.

I hope you too are finding a new appreciation for our United Methodist denomination and the truth that a life of faith is as relevant today as it was to previous generations. I'm hoping it also becomes new and real for the youngest amongst us.

I'm so thankful that The Downtown Church has leaned into our Wesleyan roots over the years to be a place that is open and accepting to all. A place where grace is celebrated and passed out like candy on Halloween. A church that reaches across the social and political spectrum to create unity and find common ground

I have the very fortunate job to look out on Sunday mornings and see it happening in real time in your faces and conversations and I find my heart strangely warmed.

See you on Sunday,
Brian
One of our favorite traditions, Dinners Together, is coming up this spring and we need some hosts! If you don't know what Dinners Together is, it's exactly that—dinner together. There's no agenda, no rules, and no Bible study. This is simply a chance to get to know the people you see on Sunday mornings. And what's better for new relationships and good conversation than sharing a meal. If you'd like to open your home to some nice people, just email us back and let us know!
We are excited to offer a new Bible study on the Epistle of James. Brent Bossi will lead this group on Sunday evenings from 5:30-7pm as we dive into this short book. This study will feature a lot of group discussion, different perspectives, and various translations as we make sense of these ancient words written by Jesus' brother. Bring your own bible and we'll brew the coffee. Childcare will be available if anyone needs it!

As part of our current sermon series, From the Foundry, we are going to explore sacred music in worship, and specifically some hymns from Charles Wesley. On February 23, we are going to have High Church Sunday. This will be a more liturgical, traditional worship experience that we've never tried before. We are excited to sing familiar hymns accompanied by our pipe organ and a choir, and you might even see the pastor in a suit and robes. If you'd like to sing in the choir, email us back or mark your bulletin on Sunday.
