I don't mean to scare any of you students or teachers out there, but school will back in session in exactly one month. I know, I know, we try not to talk about that around my house since my wife is a teacher. But the facts are the facts. These last weeks of summer sometimes feel like a long Sunday night where you just know school or work is right around the corner, but you don't want the weekend to end. But alas, it will. These scorching hot days will turn to crisp evenings and back to the regular routines of the school year.
I for one am excited to get back into the regular routine of our church life. Summer is the season of travel, but once September hits, people get back into the swing of things. That means the youth will be back almost every Sunday evening, along with the puppets. There will be new studies and classes starting to deepen our faith and understanding of God's great big love. And another season of Dinners Together.
And I will be living into a new routine myself. This new position of Associate Pastor means I'll get to see where God takes me and how God will use me. My prayer is that you too look forward to being guided down new paths this fall. Ones that intersect with old friends, new faces, and the chance to deepen your connection with your creator.
But don't forget to savor these summer nights. They go too quickly. Take the time to call those old friends now. Say hi to the new faces you meet. And make plans now to be part of the good in the world, that brings a little bit of heaven on earth.
See you Sunday, Brian
