I am writing this from Florida where we are spending spring break with the family. Ben’s parents moved here in 1979 and it has always been a great place to visit family and the beach. This year we went to Cape Canaveral on Monday to enjoy the Space Center again. It never ceases to amaze me that astronauts were willing to strap themselves into a tiny space capsule on the nose of an enormous Saturn V rocket and land on the moon. The space shuttle program that created a way to go from outer space and back was amazing and somehow we began to take it for granted until something went wrong. The building of a space station required an enormous amount of human talent and cooperation from multiple countries and is still circling above us each day.
The amount of human cooperation that was necessary for all of that to happen successfully is extraordinary. Yet, it is still happening with NASA, Blue Origin, and SpaceX in our country. What would happen if we put the same amount of effort and energy into solving climate change, into repairing broken relationships around the world, and into feeding the millions of people who will be without food today, or without healthcare?
And I wonder...don’t we have the responsibility to be part of the solutions instead of the problems? Of course we do! As followers of Jesus Christ, it is our gift and our responsibility to mend and heal as He did. What can each of us contribute to the cause of restoration? I wonder.
See you Sunday, Lori
