Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

The past few weeks I have been in conversation with people new to the story of The Downtown Church. It is a wonderful tale of how we started in 2014 with a vision team composed of people from the community and the church to learn from the Holy Spirit who this particular body of Christ is called to be. The group consisted of an architect who cares greatly about Springfield, the director of the Downtown Springfield Association, a person who became very disillusioned with organized religion, someone who describes themselves as an agnostic, a young person who worked with college students, as well as a few people who decided this was their home church. We met weekly for a few months to dream and think.

It was a beautiful process. When we finally landed on the vision statement it felt as if the light came on in a dark room. This was it. This was the church we wanted to be. This is the way we could impact our community. This is how we could grow the kingdom of God. And as I recount the story, I am very aware that these words still guide us: The Downtown Church meets in the middle of rich & poor, young & old, believers & nonbelievers. A place where Christ and the community intersect.

This Sunday we invite you who call The Downtown Church your home to make a pledge to our budget for 2023. This is how we are able to make good financial decisions for living into our vision. And I can already say thank you! You are The Downtown Church and I am grateful for how we continue to honor Christ by being the place where Christ and the community intersect.

See you on Sunday for Bluegrass music!
Lori

It's been three years since we've had a Bluegrass Sunday. We'll pull out some old favorites, as well as some new offerings, and we'll pick and fiddle and strum our way through a good time! Warm up your voice and practice clapping on the 2 and the 4, and we'll see you on Sunday!

We mentioned it in an email last week, but The Downtown Church has approved spending $118,000 to repair and renovate the exterior of the old parsonage (also known as the Ragan House). If you didn't get a chance to read the email, you can get all the details here. Be on the lookout for workers over the next few months.

We couldn't make this place work without all the wonderful volunteers we have. There are a few areas right now we could use some help. If you like kids, we need a few more people to help on Sunday mornings upstairs with the kids. If you are a techie, we need some help running slides on Sundays. And if you like to get dirty, we need some help trimming, planting, and cleaning up the property. Just email us back if you'd like to lend a hand!
