I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but Christmas Eve is exactly two months away. Two. Months. And I'm saying this just as much to myself as I am to you because Christmas Eve is a pretty big deal for churches.
But when you step back for a second and glance at your calendar over the next two months, it can be overwhelming. There is so much to get through. The leaves are falling all around us, which means trick-or-treating is next followed by an election. Then the countdown to Thanksgiving and travel, holiday parties and shopping. And when you feel the chill in the air, Christmas is near, and at that point the year is basically over. We are flipping the page to 2025.
So before you get stressed out and feel overwhelmed, I want you to put one more thing on your calendar: nothing.
Maybe more accurately, it should read 'solitude' and you need to protect it. Because if you don't plan for some down time, quiet time when you can reflect on the good things in life, you might miss it. And that would be a sad realization.
My prayer in this sprint to the end of the year is that you schedule a little time for you to reconnect with God in the stillness and soak that up. Because this world won't do it for you. If we don't reserve the time, something else will take it. Listen for that whisper. God loves you. You are cherished. This world needs you. And then get out there and let someone else know it too.
See you Sunday, Brian
