Hello Church,
I’m excited to let you all know that the Board of The Downtown Church voted in favor of moving forward with repairs and renovations on the exterior of the old parsonage (also known as the Ragan House).
The contractor we’ve hired is planning on beginning work as soon as possible. It will include a new roof, wood repairs and paint, caulking, sealing, and asbestos removal. The estimated cost for this portion of the renovation is approximately $118,000. We are intentionally focusing on getting the exterior of the building sealed up before the worst of winter hits. Once the building is water tight, the board will then review options for addressing the interior work (such as electrical, carpet, paint, and a new restroom) and determine the right mix of contractor and volunteer work to complete these items. Ideally, we can save some money by using our own labor and the skills of our congregation!
The reason we are spending the money on this project now is because we’ve addressed many issues that have been plaguing our main building, and if we didn’t get the problems fixed now on the parsonage, it might have progressed to a point beyond repair. Prioritizing investment now in the parsonage is a natural extension and obligation of maintaining the entire campus. Additionally, once it is fully renovated, it will surely be an asset, not only to our church, but also downtown Springfield, and further our vision to be a place where Christ and the community intersect.
We are so excited for how this congregation has supported the church, both financially and in service as volunteers, stepping up whenever a need appears! I’m proud to be the chairperson of this fantastic board that represents you all.
